A Washing Machine - Donated By, Céline Santschi in December 2009!

'To stay in Kenya for 6 months was definitely one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life.  It was such an inspiring, precious and life changing experience. It gave me the opportunity to get a proper insight into the Kenyan culture and their way of life. In these 6 months I was able to work in different projects with orphaned children.
Even if most of them live in a very difficult situation, I found all of them full of hope, always a smile on their face and they all welcomed me with open arms.''

''My duties were to teach, to cook, clean, to wash and to take care of the small children. All those young children have such a sad background already and the circumstances/conditions in which they grow up really touched me and that’s why I decided to help them. I started to write emails to my friends in Switzerland, telling them about those projects and without even asking them for anything they started to send me money and big parcels full of toys and books. With all those donations I was able to cook a few times for the whole school and on my last week there I was able to buy a washing machine for the Children’s Centre in Nairobi.''

''All those donations included a lot of fun...the cooking turned into a big party where we danced and celebrated the whole night. The appreciation for all that was amazing, they were all very thankful. I enjoyed every single moment which I’ve spent with those kids.  A big thank you to Sub Saharan Adventures, to my host family and all the good people I’ve met, you made my stay in Kenya to be an unforgettable part of my life.''

4 Bags Of Maize - Donated By, Sub Saharan Volunteers & Adventures in April 2010!

Sub Saharan Volunteers & Adventures made a donation of 4 bags of maize to a children's orphanage/school in Nairobi on behalf of a well-wisher who kindly donated the money. The orphanage/school continues to do outstanding work for the children of Nairobi. Not only does it teach, feed and host all of their students, they also accommodate and include many children from the surrounding area in their feeding programs.  We want to support this project and ensure they continue doing their great work for the community.  Food is becoming a pricey commodity within Nairobi due to droughts within areas of the country where the maize is grown and organisations such as this one find it increasingly difficult to support and sustain the orphanage/school.

Unfortunately without the constant support of our volunteers and various well-wishers the organisation would severely struggle to carry on its great work.  This is why we are in constant need of volunteers to help support this project in Nairobi.  The bags of maize donated will sustain the feeding program to continue its work and we are forever grateful for all donations we receive here are Sub Saharan.  The photos can tell the rest of the story as you can see how much it means to the children and the organisations staff members.

Our thanks go out to Mr Samuel Burge from Winchester, England for kindly donating the funds to be able to purchase the maize for the children's feeding program.

''Its brilliant to be able to offer a donation to people less fortunate than myself, i cannot offer my services over there at this moment in time but I'm very pleased to see how helpful my donation has been to the centre, Thank you Sub Saharan Volunteers & Adventures'', Samuel Burge

A Donation Of Wheat, Flour, Maize, Beans, Rice, Sugar & Toothpaste In December 2010!

Two of our volunteers who took part in our Discover Kenya trip worked at one of our orphanages in Nairobi, Kenya and kindly donated around £1000 worth of good to the orphanage including Toothpaste, Sugar, Rice, Beans, Maize, Flour & Wheat. This is one of the most generous donations we have seen here and are very thankful to Marie McEnroe and Triona Mullally from Ireland. The orphanage has benefited tremendously from this donation and it is enough food to feed the orphans in the orphanage and the school over the Christmas period and well into the new year. Without constant volunteer support many of these orphanages who rely on well-wishers for survival would not exist today and many more children would be without a home and some form of education.

Marie & Triona also achieved the climb to the top of My Longonort in Kenya's Central Rift Valley alongside visiting the Masaai Mara and working in an orphanage in Mombasa before they headed off on the rest of their travels throughout the rest of Africa starting with Tanzania.
