Help People Develop New Skills
Do you think you could help improve the local Masai women's way of life. Would you like to learn new ways to live and a different ancient culture? Well if so this is the project for you. You can live in a real Masai village with the Masai tribe. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to leave your reality for a short period of time to see how other people live on our planet. You will be able to help Masai women develop new marketing techniques to sell their crafts and curios to tourists. It's a truly rewarding project for all.

Why The Need For Volunteers?
It is important for volunteers to get involved in projects like this to give a different opinion and add variety into methods which are already in place. The Masai women appreciate the work being done by the volunteers encouraging them to continue their efforts. The collaboration between volunteers and the local communities is a tried and tested method and has proved to be successful. Volunteers are essential at the project for the continuation and the success.

Volunteers Activities
Volunteers mostly work with the women’s group making crafts and curios with them. Volunteers also help them to develop marketing strategies to assist them to sell their products.  If you feel you have the appropriate skills, you can help them to design beautiful beads.

Volunteers also run informal English classes to teach the Masai women. This enables the local women at least to speak some English and sell their products directly to the tourists (not through middle man).  Volunteers also organise informal English classes for local youths who participate as local culture tour s guides.  It helps them to improve their oral English which gives them a better chance to get a job as guides.

The Required Skills
You must be flexible, use your initiative and have plenty of enthusiasm to face the daily challenges your role will throw at you. A pro active attitude is essential for you to have so that you and your project gain the most out of one another. You must use all the skills you have to enrich your experience and to help leave a profound effect on your project. Most importantly it is essential for you to show a commitment to the project. Depending on your capabilities and initiative you may find yourself being invited to participate in other events not mentioned in the project specifications.

Local Facilities
The project is situated about an hour from Arusha in rural Tanzania. Your accommodation has all the basic facilities you require and you will receive 3 meals a day. There are no real facilities in the form of shops, markets or any recreational activities as your location is remote. This is idea for those who want to get away from the busy cities and experience the true beauty of nature.

Trip Highlights
Arusha is surrounded by some of Africa's most famous landscapes and national parks. Mt Kilimanjaro, Ngorogoro Crater and the Serengeti. Arusha is a popular destination for both volunteers & tourists alike. There are many great attractions around this area and you are also in close proximity to the Kenyan border should you want to do a bit of country hopping.

Accommodation In Arusha
Your accommodation will vary from time to time, but you will most likely live with a local family in the Masaai village. This gives you the best opportunity to experience the true African way of life from the inside and not as a ''tourist'' which only allows you to see the country on the surface.

We always try to accommodate you as close to your project as possible, so you are able to walk to work. This is not possible all of the time but there is a great alternative at hand, the ''DalaDalla'' or as we know it the mini bus. They are all over Tanzania so you will have no problem getting around

Living In Tanzania
Tanzania officially called the United Republic of Tanzania is the largest country in East Africa. Tanzania is bordered by Kenya and Uganda to the north and to the west is the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda & Burundi and to the south is Mozambique. To the east of the country lies the Indian Ocean. In the mountainous north of the country lies the highest peak in Africa, Mt Kilimanjaro.

Arusha is located within close proximity to the equator however due to its altitude of 1400 metres the temperature is kept cool all year round. Arusha has an average of 25°C degrees with a minimum of 13°C & a maximum of 30°C. It has distinct wet and dry seasons, the wet season runs from March to May (the long rains) and October to November (the short rains). The dry season runs from December to February & June to August.

Arusha is characterized by Masai warriors, in full regalia, and a busy market displaying Masai craftsmanship. You’ll also find the local clock tower here at the midpoint between Cairo and Cape Town. Arusha is the most popular destination within Tanzania for attractions. Located nearby is Mt Kilimanjaro, Serengeti National Park & the Ngorongoro Crater. These are some of the most visited attractions within Tanzania and have the most turnover of tourists. All of these attractions can be booked and organised from Arusha or from Dar es Salaam. Arusha is also known for its lively music scene, especially Tanzanian hip-hop, a blend of Maasai and Swahili influences with western music, known as Bongo Flava. You can catch a bit of this at popular local clubs like Colobus and the Blue Triple ‘A’.
